| "ECHOES" & "WORDS OF A MOUNTAIN"
Many events are in the working to celebrate Island Records 50th anniversary. "Words Of A Mountain" should be part of the re-releases being planned, as a collector item. It is not decided yet whether "Echoes" could also benefit from this or not. But it has already been on line on iTunes Store Europe for quite some time. If only Universal US could do the same ... COMPASS POINT ALL STARS Is CPAS and its classic sound undergoing some kind of revival ? Added to the release of "Funky Nassau: The Compass Point Story" (Strut), we've had quite a few meeting of souls: Grace Jones' "Hurricane" album where CPAS was joined by luminaries such as Brian Eno, Tony Allen, Tricky and others; ex-Black Uhuru Michael Rose's "Youth nowadays" (from the "Warrior" album); forthcoming Gregory Isaac's "Poor Man". It all took place within the last couple years, remotely most of the time, without even seeing each other, still solid sounding nevertheless. New technology put in good use turns common use, at last. CPAS live in 2009, with all legendaries past and present, why not ? Urgently seeking producer. TRILOGY My main target, more than ever, even though my multiple activities seem to have put a toll on the schedule. It is just for the better, as today's way of releasing work is far more informal than it used to be just a few years ago; therefore, I do intend to let out different stages of "work in progress", a state this trilogy will obviously remain at. Demos and albums might not be things of the past entirely, but it is now clear that we're all willing to get things as they come and witness the progress somehow. I'll simply go beyond the "Colors of Silence" step, and include any 'valuable' thing that came accross in the last couple decades, remixes and all. The trilogy might not be entirely shaped around identical material as I initially planned, but still clearly defines 3 distinct lanes in the music I create, one of which to be written in surround MEANWHILE More re-uniting took place a while ago: Level-42 co-founder Phil Gould invited me to collaborate on his first solo project. Along with great co-producer Fabio Balestrieri, he also had wonderful Berenice Scott (daughter of M-PopMuzik Robin Scott) and Level-42 co-founder Mike Lindup with him too. From the Isle Of Wight to Milano, it's been a breeze to get to work with them all, with a quest for the authentic rather than the hip in mind. More on this on myspace The Red Bull Music Academy regularly puts up contemporary electronic music seminars around the globe, getting all generations in the field to meet and exchange ideas and experiences. Relax, well organized, and quite enriching. Here are snippets of the lecture I gave in Melbourne, Australia, back in 2006 In a very short while, I'll put on display some of the collaborative work that happened to come across these last years: this with the Montpellier-based gospel band "Black&White Experience"; this with philosopher-artist Baco from Mayotte; this my friend David Felgeirolles, genius engineer I intend to work with often; these with long standing brothers in arms such as Philippe Hubrenne; and many others. It's about time. |
